Acceptance and Refusal of Authorisations

Our Centre is responsible for protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of each child at all times. Educators need authorisation to administer medications, collect children, take children on excursions, and transport children. This policy outlines how we manage these authorisations.

The Education and Care Services National Regulations require approved providers to ensure their services have policies and procedures in place in relation to the acceptance and refusal of authorisations. These procedures ensure that required authorisations are obtained and kept in the enrolment record and help to ensure that the health, safety, wellbeing and best interests of all children are met.

Obtaining an Authorisation We must have authorisations from parents/guardians or authorised nominees in these circumstances: 

  • Medical treatment for the child (regulation 161) 

  • Medical record (regulation 92) 

  • Children leaving the premises in the care of someone other than their parent (regulation 99), other than in an emergency 

  • Take children on excursions (regulation 102)

  • Transport of children (regulation 102D)

  • Transportation for the child by an ambulance service (regulation 161) 

  • Administration of medication to a child (regulation 93) 

  • Children leaving the education and care service premises (regulation 99) 

  • Authorisation for excursion (regulation 102) 

  • Authorisation for service to transport children (102D) 

  • Authorisation from parents to take, use and store images and videos of children (Regulation 168) 

  • Authorisation for the use of digital devices by children (Regulation 168)

We give information and support to parents/guardians of our Centre to complete and maintain written authorisations when they enrol their child/ren. We also inform parents/guardians about their right to refuse authorisations and the impacts of refusing.
